The Product: Bumble and Bumble

It is incredibly difficult to find a hair product line that has a variety of items that suit all hair types, but actually work effectively.  At A+P Daily, we know for a fact that we (and every other hair product enthusiast) thanks God for giving us Bumble and Bumble - a well-established hair salon and product line.  This New York based salon has become a fashion show, red-carpet, and photoshoot-ready hair product staple in the entertainment industry.  It has been around for roughly 34 years continually expanding its empire, and in 2011, it clearly has no intention of slowing down.  After opening in 1977 by founder Michael  Gordon, Bumble and Bumble has created iconic products (Brilliantine, Surf Spray, for example), opened a University (The Bb.U), and ultimately nicknamed itself: The House of Bumble.  Bumble and Bumble is currently operating two main salons situated in Manhattan - one Uptown and the other Downtown (in The House of Bumble) - and a Styling Bar in the 59th Street Bloomingdales.  The two different salons each have their own vibe - as they should - since they are in two very distinctive parts of Manhattan.  Having visited both salons and experiencing a cut in the Downtown salon, it is safe to say that a Bumble and Bumble experience is none like any other.  Each stylist is trained in both technique and knowledge, but brings an element of personality to each client.  Since we're being perfectly honest, the cut at Bumble and Bumble was the best haircut ever experienced and the more than satisfying result lasted for approximately three months (ages in haircut terms).  The products created at Bumble and Bumble each embody a distinct purpose - whether it is for shine, texture, cleanliness, hydration, etc... they work like a charm.  We personally worship Bumble and Bumble hair products, so much so, that to say we can't live without them would be an understatement.  Check out our favorites under the cut.

The Shampoo and Conditioner:

8oz Creme de Coco Shampoo and Conditioner
Although Bumble and Bumble has a variety of shampoos and conditioners (Seaweed, Let it Shine, Tonic, Gentle, Alojoba, Thickening, Sunday, Curl Conscious, Color-based, masques, serums) which we love, our favorite definitely has to be the Bb. Creme de Coco Shampoo ($22 USD) and Conditioner ($23 USD).  This particular product line smells absolutely delicious and you will probably want to eat your hair - figuratively, of course (please don't actually eat it, no matter how amazing it smells). Both of these products are infused with coconut and murumuru butters to help reduce frizz and actually help you manage and control your hair.  For those of you with color-treated hair, don't fret, it is safe to use on your hair too!

The Styling Product:

Left: Brilliantine - 2oz; Right: Surf Spray - 4oz

Now, let's acknowledge that Bumble and Bumble have a ton of styling products as well.  Some of them (well most of them), we haven't had the pleasure of trying; however, let us tell you, that the above two products, we most definitely have.  The Brilliantine and Surf Spray have become Bb. staples in the fashion world and for us normal hair enthusiasts.  The Brilliantine ($21 USD) is an excellent product used to give shine and a flexible hold, all while providing a textured look without the effort.  Even though you end up paying $21 USD for a 2oz container, trust us, it really is worth it.  Plus, you actually aren't supposed to use very much on your hair, especially when the instructions tell you to "use very sparingly".  The Surf Spray ($23 USD) is probably one of the most effective specialty sprays we have ever used.  It does not necessarily act as a legitimate hairspray, but it gives your hair a light hold and automatically creates a laid-back, beach-hair, textured look.  It works on both damp and dry hair, with it probably being the most effective when you spray on damp hair and let your hair air dry.  It also works great on freshly curled hair from the curling iron since the spray loosens them up slightly, but also keeps them intact.

Don't be afraid to mix and match your Bb. styling products!  We love mixing certain products together to create different holds and textures.  One of our favorites is to layer with the Bb. Grooming Creme ($26 USD)Surf Spray ($23 USD), and Brilliantine ($21 USD).  By putting all of these products together, you have a foundation for a styling moisturizer, a light-hold spray, and a finishing shine, to give your hair the ultimate texture anyone has ever seen.

The Sprays:

Bb. Spray de Mode - 10oz; Hair Powders (White, Blondish, Brown, Black) - 4.4oz
Hairsprays have always been an essential item to every woman and man, and there is no doubt that the Bb. Spray de Mode ($26 USD) should be any different.  Despite Bumble and Bumble having two other hairsprays, the Spray de Mode always manages to get the job done.  The Classic ($22 USD) and the Does it All Styling Spray ($25 USD) are other great options, but the Spray de Mode has a superior mix between the essential hair styling elements: hold, flexibility, and heat.  Definitely try all three, but see which one suits your hair needs to find your true match.  Let's be clear: the Hair Powders ($35 USD) pictured above are an absolute necessity.  They are essentially variations of dry shampoo (a styling product primarily used for in-between washes to absorb excess oil) with additional color tints to touch up roots.  You do not need to have color-treated hair to use these hair powders, some of us at A+P Daily certainly don't.  In addition to them acting like a cleanser, they perform similarly to a hair spray by providing volume and hold to work with.

As mentioned before, and if you can't probably tell by now, here at A+P Daily, we love Bumble and Bumble hair products.  If you haven't tried it yet, or haven't heard of it, go to your nearest Sephora (yes, Bb. is being sold at Sephora!) or head over to their Store Locator to see where else you can find their products.  Now, if you're hesitant of purchasing Bumble and Bumble products - mostly because you're probably thinking, "Why am I going to spend $20+ on hair products I can find at my local drugstore?!" - we get it.  Think of it as an investment.  We certainly did.  All of Bumble and Bumble's products actually last quite some time, that is, of course if you don't douse yourself with them every time you shower.  These products will probably be some of the best investments you will make in your entire life.  Okay, maybe not your absolute best investment, but they definitely will be your best hair-related investment you will make in a long time.
