Oscar Fashion

Last night was the biggest night in Hollywood, but also one of the greatest nights for fashion.  The 83rd Annual Academy Awards hosted thousands of attendees at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, where some of the brightest stars came out dressed by many heavy hitters in fashion, but also some unknowns.  There are always some celebrities who "get it right" on the red carpet, and some who unfortunately don't.  To see who thrived and who didn't (of course, on A+P Daily's watch), click after the jump.

Who and what we loved:
Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture
This dress has gorgeous, intricate details and Cate Blanchett is wearing it.  Need we say more?

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Couture
The lavender color on Mila is perfection.  The dress has gorgeous lace detail and Mila looks fabulous in it.
Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa
Very age appropriate and simple for a fourteen year old rising star.  It was nothing too eccentric and not bland either - Hailee hasn't missed a mark this award season.
Hilary Swank in Gucci Premiere
The ombre feather train is beautiful and made Hilary one of the most elegant presenters on the Kodak stage.

Michelle Williams in Chanel Couture
Michelle Williams always looks polished and appropriate for her age.  Oscar night was definitely no exception.
Anne Hathaway in Armani Privé
Out of all of Anne's wardrobe changes, this one struck a note with the A+P Daily Team.  The custom made dress looked stunning on her.
Didn't quite get it right:
Nicole Kidman in Dior Couture
We thought Nicole's dress was just confusing.  The ill-placed pattern on her chest drew unwanted attention to it and almost appeared as if a claw was coming out of her stomach.  The bottom half was not doing her any favors either, as it made her look very bottom-heavy.  The slit seems very awkwardly placed as well.  Perhaps if the entire bottom half was sleek and drawn out with no pattern, the dress would look fabulous on her.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce and Gabbana
This dress made her look dated.  Neck up, she looks great - especially with her unique haircut - otherwise, this dress was not a very good choice.
Jennifer Hudson in Atelier Versace
Here at A+P Daily, we did not appreciate the side-sweep - it made her look disproportionate.  This dress also did not look like it fitted her cleavage very well either, especially paired with the halter top.
Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein
This dress is appearing on many "Best Dressed" lists; however, it's a little perplexing as to why.  The slit on her top half is slightly awkward, and the entire shape of the dress is very ill-fitting.  The silver/nude color unfortunately washes Gwyneth out.
We're not really sure what to think of these:
Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein
Jennifer looks amazing in this dress, there is no doubt about it.  At A+P Daily, we weren't really sure what to make of this dress since it seemed too simple, too reminiscent of Scarlett Johansson's prior year's outfit, and remarkably underdressed.

Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott
This color is stunning on Amy, but we're not so sure about the shape of this dress.  Don't get us wrong, we think she looks great: it seems to fit in all the right places, but a part of us is bothered by the top half of the dress.  We're not really sure if we like how it's very conservative around the neck - we almost wish it was more open at the top instead of a sleeveless.

To sum it up, A+P Daily found that there was too much nude colored dresses on the red carpet!  Yes, we love minimalism too, but it's almost spring and one of Spring 2011's biggest trends is bold colors.  We wish more stars took a risk with color instead of playing it safe with the basic nude colored dresses.  Of course, they still look fabulous in those nude-colored dresses (as most of what we liked was surprisingly nude), it's just that some of the more show-stopping dresses were not nude nor red (see Anne Hathaway's Armani Privé gown and Amy Adam's L'Wren Scott gown).
