Who will Replace Galliano?

As you have probably heard by now, the House of Dior's famed head designer, John Galliano experienced a dramatic fall from grace this past week.   Dior fired him as of Tuesday, and it has been as scandalous as ever.  Everyone has already got an opinion on the matter and we feel like it is more fashionable to not talk about it at this point. However, the House of Dior is one of the biggest brands in the worlds, what is going to happen? Who will replace Galliano? Will it still be ferosh?  How does this impact Dior's upcoming March 4th fashion show during Paris Fashion Week?  LVMH owns a majority stake in Dior, and Bernard Arnault has said that Dior is his favourite label, so chances are that he is going to tap one of the LVMH designers to be the head. But an outsider could just as well be chosen, which would definitely be more exciting. Venture behind the cut as we have summed up what we thought.

Riccardo Tisci, Givenchy
He is probably the most buzzed about from the LVMH camp.  Because Galliano himself started at Givenchy before moving to Dior a year later, this makes Givenchy to be thought of as a training ground for Dior. Riccardo Tisci is one of the most talented designers working today - we would love to see what he can do for Dior. His aesthetic is much more gothic and edgy than Dior’s target market, thus it might not be the desired effect that Dior is looking for.

Stefano Pilati, YSL
It has been a tough couple of weeks for Pilati as well because of his pending rumors on termination. YSL issued a statement last week saying that it wasn't true, but we still hear that YSL has tried to replace Pilati for quite some times now.  This could be a great chance for YSL to restructure if these rumors are true. No one can update a house’s archives like Stefano as we have witnessed with the past few seasons at YSL, so he would be an idea fit for a heritage house like Dior. It is also rumored that Haider Ackerman will be an replacement, but more on that later.

Hedi Slimane & Carine Roitfeld
This is probably the juiciest rumoured combination that Arnault could tap to front Dior. Hedi was the infamous designer for Dior Homme who changed a whole generation’s way of dressing and Carine, the former editor in chief of French Vogue, reported was let go after a distasteful Tom Ford editorial late last year. Controversial? Amazing? We think especially think so.  If provocateurs is what Dior is after, then it's definitely these two.

Giambattista Valli
The go to designer of the young jetsetter, girly, and glamorous crowd. He would present something to the new generation of Dior costumers without loosing touch with the Parisienne Chic factor that Dior is known for.

Dries Van Noten
We know that he is the high priest of a certain type of European casual chic and we know that he puts sweatshirts over raw silk maxi skirts making him an expert in simplicity; but the man also does the most amazingly intricate beading pieces we have ever seen.  He would be such an interesting choice for Dior - we can see that his aesthetics would perfectly coincide with the craftsmanship of Dior and that famous “Dior” look.
